Umpire Greg Allensworth produces comical response to troublesome spectator annoying Jakub Mensik

Jakub Mensik may have prevailed against Terence Atmane in the third round of the Canadian Open, but he was left displeased with a certain spectator who was disrupting his progress while calling out advice. They were soon hushed by umpire, Greg Allensworth, with a clear message but in comical fashion.

The 20-year-old was coming off a tight three-set win over Jacob Fearnley in his second round match and was hoping for a more simpler time of it in his following match in Montreal. He managed to keep it at two sets against Atmane, but it was a very tight 7-5, 6-4 scoreline that he would come out on top in.

The first 10 games of the set were routine holds. Atmane, who is set to defend a load of points at the Cincinnati Open following his breakthrough semi-final run last year, is in decent form and was posing a stubborn figure.

However, the quality of Mensik soon showed itself with a late break before a first set point was taken with open arms. He had opened up a buffer and should have made it more. Atmane led 2-1 on serve in the second set despite facing seven break points. In between he also missed his one and only shot of breaking the Mensik serve.

Another chance came and went as these wasted chances started to frustrate Mensik. Eventually, he was able to get that all-important break at the ninth time of trying in the set. In doing so, he set himself up with a shot at serving the match out, but before he could do so there was something bugging him.

Behind him, there was a specific fan who was getting on his nerve, regularly calling out advice that he did not find very useful, more of a burden. At 15-15 in what would be the final game of the match, Mensik trudged over to the umpire chair and complained to Allensworth.

"It's the same guy," he said in response to Mensik's protests. The American then had his moment in the spotlight, calling out the heckler in a humorous way.

"Sir at the back of the court, the players have fantastic coaches that they pay to get them through matches. So please stop. Thank you." He smiled through stating that as the crowd applauded and cheered the announcement.

The umpire was soon back concentrated on the tie with the Czech at the back of the court getting ready to serve, smirking at Allensworth's comments on the situation. He would see it out with relative ease and confirmed a spot in the fourth round in Canada for the first time in his second appearance.

A former Masters 1000 champion, Mensik knows how to win at this level despite his very young age. With a number of top names having vanished from contention, the door is open to a surprise winner in Montreal, making for an intriguing lineup.

No match will be easy from this point, but Mensik can find solace in knowing that he has the lowest ranked player in the drawing remaining as his last-16 opponent. He should not underestimate Botic Van de Zandschulp who could be a slippery banana skin if he is to falter.

From possibly the easiest draw to what could be the trickiest if he makes it to the quarter-final. He is in the same quarter as reigning champion Ben Shelton and fellow young super talent Joao Fonseca. The Brazilian was disposed of enroute to the semi-final of Roland Garros a few months ago, and the 13th seed will fancy his chances against either of them. First up, however, he needs to defeat Van de Zandschulp which is no guarantee based on how this tournament has gone so far.
