Daniel Altmaier prevailed on Thursday evening over Jannik Sinner 6-7, 7-6 1-6, 7-6, 7-5 in a thrilling second round tie at
Roland Garros.
Altmaier showed exactly what it meant to him post match at the
French Open.
The German was left in floods of tears sat taking it in on the court after the match after prevailing in a gruelling encounter over the Italian.
It is the latest in a long line of recent wins for Altmaier who alongside Yannick Hanfmann have anchored German tennis through a period which has seen Alexander Zverev attempt to get back to the top.
"Personally, my path has always been based on the fighting spirit, on showing my personality on court. Although I have gone through difficult times, I have had a strong character with which moving forward. It means a lot, I have been working very hard," he said post match.
He will now face Grigor Dimitrov tomorrow afternoon as his rise continues.
