Carlos Alcaraz faces a race against time to be fit and ready for Roland Garros after having to withdraw from this week's Rome Open due to his forearm injury which has acted as a thorn in the side of the Spaniard for most of the past month.
Since winning Indian Wells, he has only played Miami and Madrid with Monte-Carlo, Barcelona and Rome all being missed. Ahead of a pivotal juncture in the season for him, it is not a good omen for Roland Garros. It gives players such as Novak Djokovic a real bit between his teeth after Sinner and Alcaraz have been heavily lauded.
But both are now out injured and face a fitness bid. Albeit Sinner more than Alcaraz seemingly, the Spaniard is already back on clay with the message that he will be 'back as soon as possible' as the weeks draw close. Thankfully for both, they have a buffer of a few weeks with Rome's two weeks being missed and then the week following.
So as a result, they have a good period of time to recoup. Watch this space for more news on Alcaraz.
