With rule changes for the
Madrid Open, singles players were given more freedom to play doubles and in particular
Daniil Medvedev and
Tommy Paul stood out but also for hilarious reasons.
`Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori won through 6-2, 7-5 against them, but it also saw a hilarious clip emerge of Medvedev and Paul really showing their lack of doubles skill with both running around the court like headless chickens with no semblance of tactics. Albeit there was a tactic to Medvedev playing with Paul despite the lack of clarity as to whether the Russian and Belarusian players can even play doubles.
"It’s experience, trying to get ready for Olympics a little bit, to try to get the idea of doubles a bit more into my head... I like watching it (doubles) to be honest, playing I like less," he said after winning his match against Bublik.
But tennis fans in the replies also saw the funny side of this video emerging. "They are like a confusing ballet and I am living for this tussling chaotic energy," one said.
