Russia’s tennis star
Daniil Medvedev has expressed his frustration
over two fans during the
US Open 2023.
The 27-year-old faced Christopher O'Connell in the second round
of the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year on Thursday.
During the match, Medvedev was frustrated when two fans kept
talking out loud as he was trying to serve and said: “Are you stupid or what?”
The current world number three came out on top in the
contest with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 6-7, 6-2.
Medvedev will be hoping to continue his winning run going in
the mega-event. His only major tournament triumph came while playing in the US
Open back in 2021 when he defeated the current world number two Serbia’s Novak
Djokovic in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
In the last four years, Medvedev has qualified for the
semifinal or beyond three times, an impressive record to say the least.
His only disappointing outing was last year where he was knocked
out from the fourth round after losing to Australia’s Nick Kyrgios with a score
of 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Medvedev will now face Argentina’s Sebastian Baez in the US
Open’s round of 32 clash on Saturday.
