Daniil
Medvedev's daughter created a heartwarming moment as she recognized her dad in
a poster at the 2023
ATP Finals venue.
The top
eight male tennis players have gathered in Turin for the 2023 ATP Finals. Novak
Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and
Daniil Medvedev lead the rankings, joined by
Jannik Sinner, Andrey Rublev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Casper Ruud, and Alexander
Zverev, competing in the tournament from November 12 to 19.
World No. 3
Daniil Medvedev is focused on his upcoming debut in the Finals, facing his
friend and compatriot Andrey Rublev on Monday. The former world No. 1 leads the
head-to-head 6-2 and has won both matchups this year: in the final of the Dubai
Open and the quarterfinals of the US Open.
Just one
day before his first round-robin match, Medvedev's daughter, Alisa, aged just
over a year, had a touching moment at the Pala Alpitour in Turin, Italy. While
walking through one of the venue's corridors, she spotted a large poster of her
father, prompting her to stop in surprise and gaze at it after recognizing him:
“Daniil
Medvedev’s daughter walking by a poster of him in Turin. She stops &
recognizes her dad.”
Daniil Medvedev at
Finals
The Russian
will be participating in his fifth ATP Finals, boasting a record of 9-7,
indicating a 56% success rate. His best performance came in 2020 when he
clinched the championship by defeating Dominic Thiem 4-6, 7-6, 6-4 in the
final. Additionally, in 2021, he reached the final but succumbed to German
player Alexander Zverev with a scoreline of 4-6, 4-6.
In his last
appearance, he stumbled in the round-robin stage, losing all three matches he
played, each of them in the tie-break of the third set against Rublev,
Tsitsipas, and Djokovic.
“It's very
tough. From the first match you play against a Top 10 player, which never
happens on Tour, other than here. You have to play your best from the first
match if you want to try to win the whole thing,” Medvedev said about playing the
Finals.
