Serbia’s legendary tennis player
Novak Djokovic showcased
his catching skills in the
US Open 2023.
The 36-year-old is currently taking part in the fourth and
final Grand Slam of the year where he is in quest to win yet another major
title.
During the fourth-round fixture in the mega-event, Djokovic
showcased his catching skills as he managed to catch the ball in his shorts.
The Belgrade-born defeated Croatia’s Borna Gojo in straight sets
with a score of 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 on Sunday.
Djokovic is now set to face off against America’s Taylor Fritz in
the quarterfinal of the mega-event on Tuesday.
The 23-time Grand Slam winner will be hoping to go all the
way this time around and add another title to his already full cabinet.
Interestingly, the US Open, along with the French Open, remains Djokovic’s
least successful major competition where he only managed to lift the title
three times each.
His last major triumph while playing at the Flashing Medows
came back in 2018 when he defeated Argentina’s Juan Martín del Potro in the
final with a score of 6–3, 7–6(7–4), 6–3.
In the 2019 and 2020 editions, Djokovic was knocked out from
the fourth round whereas in the 2021 edition, he lost the final to Russia’s Daniil
Medvedev in the final with a score of 6–4, 6–4, 6–4.
Last year, Djokovic missed the mega-event in New York because
of not following the Covid-19 vaccination protocol.
