Holger Rune wasn't the only one clashing with umpire Lahyani in Rome yesterday as
Novak Djokovic took issue with the umpire's signature late score announcement.
Mohamed Lahyani is known for doing certain things distinctively. He's known for quite loud correction calls and rather over-the-top calls in general. The way he announces the score is also quite noticeable as he usually takes a long pause between the first announcement in the native tongue of the event and the English score.
Quite often that tends to happen as players are getting ready to serve and Djokovic who is known for a very deliberate serving sequence took exception to that over-the-top style of announcing the score. Djokovic approached Lahyani and angrily said:
“What is the drama about waiting between English and Italian. What are you acting here or what? Why do you call the score for 20 seconds? Just call the score. For God’s sake.”
