Friday showed the real value of the
Davis Cup Finals as
Zizou Bergs and
Flavio Cobolli delivered an epic battle for the ages but there always had to be one loser and that was Bergs in what was a 15 point tie-break thriller.
Bergs and Cobolli battled it out for 17-15 in a match that went all the way and saw both have multiple chances to claim it before finally Cobolli fell over the line. It was the sixth longest deciding set in the tournament's history.
Bergs couldn't hold back the tears on the bench devastated after match point. The Belgian had done all he could apart from win as he came back from a set down and then saved two match points at 5-4 in the deciding set.
The World Number 43 even had seven match points in a crazy tie-break. He was unable to seal the deal and Cobolli converted on his fifth opportunity to seal victory and eliminate Belgium from the Davis Cup.
Cobolli made a point of going over to comfort Bergs in a heartwarming moment who was visibly distraught and in floods of tears after losing.
