Frances Tiafoe and
Carlos Alcaraz faced each other in the
US Open semi-final with the Spaniard moving on to the final and winning the event in the end.
It was a superb match between the two young players as Tiafoe narrowly missed out on his maiden grand slam final. Alcaraz ultimately prevailed both in that match and in the final against Ruud becoming world number one and a grand slam champion. It's something that both players wanted but even in defeat, Tiafoe remained classy as always.
Footage of their embrace in the locker room following the match was released and it showed Tiafoe wishing Alcaraz good luck in the final. Check out the full transcription of the exchange from the footage released:
FT: 'Go win this thing'
CA: 'Thanks, I'll do it'
FT: 'You'll be No.1 in the world, you deserve it'
CA: 'Thank you very much man, appreciate it'
[FT walks away]
