Hubert Hurkacz and
Grigor Dimitrov's Last 16 clash at the 2024
Miami Open was embroiled in controversy at the very end as the former touched the net with his left foot at a pivotal moment.
Dimitrov narrowly defeated Hurkacz 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 to advance to the Quarter-Finals where he will next take on Carlos Alcaraz and after some middling results after his brilliance towards the back end of 2023, the Bulgarian seems to be heading back to some semblance of his Paris form.
But amid the tense tiebreak decider, Hurkacz's left foot grazed the net when chasing down a drop shot. The chair umpire quickly called it against Hurkacz who appeared in disbelief and threw his racquet to the ground. It proved vital as Dimitrov sealed a mini break and claimed a 3-2 lead in the tie-break.
"One 100 percent. No doubt," the umpire said when he was then asked to check the replay. He supposedly didn't have a replay, but TV cameras showed that the umpire was right.
