Carlos Alcaraz was in a jubilant mood after booking a fifth consecutive Indian Wells semi-final against Cameron Norrie in a straight sets victory. After the match, he got dressed into a bee costume after previous events with the swarming insects occurred.
Back in 2024, Alcaraz played against Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinal stae at Indian Wells. He would go on to win the match in straight sets, but despite only dropping four games there were obstances to still climb over.
A swarm of bees came flying over the Stadium, causing panic. The Spaniard was quick to react, running into the locker room as he tried to avoid being stung by the flying insects. They found a nice home on the spider camera before being eventually dealt with.
It is a very memorable event from the tournament over the years, and since has been a familiar trend in the grounds. In his win over Arthur Rinderknech, the 22-year-old was given a reason to smile on court when he saw a group of fans dressed up as bees. "It was great fun. They helped me a lot; I was watching them and laughing. I always say that when I laugh and have fun on the court, I manage to play good tennis," he commented after the last-32 match earlier this week.

Alcaraz bee-comes a bee

The seven-time Grand Slam champion joined in the fun after his win over Norrie. He dressed up in a bee costume after the match, putting it on over his bright orange jacket, which suited it very well. He jumped out in unison with the other fans dressed up in yellow and black, showing his humour and relaxed persona.
"It's fun to see them in the stands cheering in that costume," he said in his press conference. "The other day I was with them for a bit at the end of the match. Today, they brought me a bee costume. And they started saying to me: Put it on, put it on... I had to do it for them. They were cheering me on from the first point to the last. And I said to myself, 'I'll do it. It's fun.'"
Alcaraz is enjoying a lot of success on the court this year. He has won every single match played in. This has included title triumphs at the Australian Open and Qatar Open in a hugely ominous statement towards his rivals as he looks to assert his dominance at the top. He will take on two-time finalist Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals, with a first final clash against Jannik Sinner possibly on the cards.
