I knew that one day you’ll regret this 🤣🤣 Congrats Champ!! patience, poise & class 🏆👏
Jannik Sinner may have excelled on the court at the 2024 Australian Open, but he certainly didn't when it came to singing with Maria Sharapova who used his triumph to unearth a clip of the duo singing at Christmas.
The former World No.1 joined the myriad of players who congratulated Sinner on defeating Daniil Medvedev to win his maiden Grand Slam, but with a twist as she used it to share an unseen clip that she said he would regret to them singing 'Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree'. Safe to say Sinner won't be doing Eurovision this year.
Sharapova and Sinner have known each other for a long time with the former World No.1 being coached by Sinner's ex-coach, Riccardo Piatti who coached Sinner up until 2022 when he shifted to Darren Cahill and Simone Vagnozzi who he has had superb success with as of late.
"I knew that one day you'll regret this," Sharapova wrote to accompany the video. "Congrats champ! Patience, poise and class."
They have both praised each other before with Sharapova discussing him on Rennae Stubbs Podcast last year. "I’m always rooting for him. I just like his humble approach to the sport,” Sharapova said. “I love seeing the younger generation. There’s an aura about the men’s game, it’s very evident. They have different styles of play, different personalities, from different parts of the world, and it’s just fun to see these rivalries come together. I think the men’s game is in a good state."
While Sinner said she was a dream mixed doubles partner and was left wholly impressed meeting her. “I feel lucky to have met her personally. She really impressed me with her professionalism. Her tennis was incredible, which is evident in what she achieved,” the Italian said about Sharapova. “She had a different and special type of mentality that few players have."
