Corentin Moutet has shared his hilarious imitation of
Iga Swiatek's taped-mouth routine during his recent training session at the Western & Southern
Cincinnati Open in Ohio.
French tennis player Moutet worked his way through qualifiers to reach the main draw at the ATP Masters 1000 event but was defeated in the Round of 64 by Emil Ruusuvuori, who won the match 6-4, 6-2.
Before his match, Moutet drew inspiration from world No. 1 Swiatek, who was seen practicing with tape on her mouth at the National Bank
Canadian Open (Omnium Banque Nationale) in Montreal last week.
Moutet posts imitation on social media
The 24-year-old posted a short video of him training with the tape around his mouth. He captioned the post:
"Trying @iga.swiatek technique in the gym. Let’s see if it works well," jokingly implying that he hoped to emulate the four-time Grand Slam champion's success.
Swiatek was recently questioned about her strange training method, and even she admitted that she doesn't fully understand it.
"Honestly, I don’t get it either," she joked, laughing.
Tape used to regulate breathing and heart rate
The Polish player went on to explain that, from what she knows, the taped-mouth method is used to help regulate her breathing and heart rate for endurance purposes.
"It’s harder to breathe when you are only breathing with your nose. And it’s easier for my heart rate to go up, you know. I think it has something to do with endurance," she said, before adding that she's still not totally sure as to its specific purpose.
"But I’m not gonna explain [to] you properly cause I am not an expert. Sometimes I don’t get the things they tell me to do either," she added.
