Marton Fucsovics Wimbledon campaign ended in a straight sets defeat to an inform
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Enroute to the defeat, there was a mishap with the Hungarians rackets which saw the umpire send a firm but clear message as they looked to resolve the situation.
The 2021 quarter-finalist exits at the third round stage for the second year on the spin. He was powerless against the Spaniard who managed to again find the winning combination. Following his
first ever ATP title at the recent Mallorca Championships, Davidovich Fokina is on cloud nine and is a tricky opponent for anyone who takes him on.
While he did come out on top, there was some trouble involving Fucsovics racket as he was unhappy with what was returned to him from the stringer. Having asked for a specific instruction for what he wanted the tension to be, would be left disappointed and angry with what he received as his
Wimbledon tie was halted.
Umpire sends firm message as Fucsovics waits for right racket
Fucsovics assessed his new racket, but his reaction said it
all. A frustrated looked was pictured on his face as he stated: “try again.” That is when the umpire kicked into action, sending some 'customer feedback' on behalf of Fucsovics.
“OK I’m going to start off with some customer feedback, and
then I am going to give you another instruction," he
stated. "The feedback is that you have
sent, not you, the stringer has sent two incorrectly restrung rackets back to
this court for Fucsovics.
“So when I said it to your office, it was said correctly.
You repeated it correctly, but we didn’t get what we wanted. That’s the
customer feedback.”
That was that part done, now onto the all-important instructions.
“Now we’re going to send another racket. A third one. And we are going to try
and get 27 – 26. They’re the magic numbers. We have asked for it three times,
but we haven’t got it yet.”
Davidovich Fokina too good
It is a 22nd win of 2026 for the 27-year-old who has been through quite a bit in recent time. From his coach leaving him halfway through his Roland Garros campaign, he has since found his form on a different surface.
He had never previously made it to the last-16 at SW19, but that has now changed following his win over Fucsovics. The first set went to a tiebreak following 12 holds of serve, and Davidovich Fokina capitalised on it. He won 7-3 and kicked on from there.

He got a break at the start and the end of the second set which saw him double his lead in dominant fashion. Both players missed numerous chances to break in the third set but eventually Davidovich Fokina got the job done. He won 12 of the last 14 points to seal Fucsovics fate and blast on.
The Spanish number two has a tricky test next against the number three seed Felix Auger-Aliassime as he searches for a second Grand Slam quarter-final.
