Although he may be approaching the twilight of his career, Stan Wawrinka continues to show he has more left in the tank, finishing the 2023 season as the oldest ATP player inside the top 100.
The 38-year old finished the year ranked at World No.49, a rapid rise considering he began the season ranked 148th. After struggling with injuries that forced him to take extended time off the court, Wawrinka was able to display some of the form that saw him rise into the top 3 during his peak years.
The three-time Grand Slam champion finished the year with 27 match wins, the most he has had on tour since 2019 when he was ranked in the 20's. Furthermore, he reached his first ATP final (Umag) in four years, in addition to earning a pair of top 10 wins during the long season.
Wawrinka is hoping to win one more ATP title before he hangs up his racket, with the Swiss star coming really close this summer in Umag. The three-time Grand Slam champion has the power and shotmaking ability to still be considered a threat, as he is one of the few men to have defeated all three members of the Big Three during their prime at Grand Slams.
