Wawrinka throws away win against van Assche in Banja Luka

Stan Wawrinka is out of the Srpska Open getting beaten by Luca Van Assche in three sets after he missed out on the chance to finish it off in two sets 6-1 6-7(4) 4-6.

The Swiss player started the match off in incredible fashion smashing his opponent rather comfortably with some impressive play from the baseline. The French player had a lot of issues handling Wawrinka early on but he grew more comfortable as the match went on. The rallies were longer and Wawrinka took more risks.

Both players had a chance to break in the second set but Wawrinka missed a huge chance when he had a 40-0 advantage on his opponent's serve at 5-5. He failed to break at that time and it became a costly thing when he lost the tiebreak 7-4 some 10 or more minutes later. The final set opened well for Wawrinka though as he took an early lead but also gave it right back.

Errors started to pile up for him and van Assche was able to turn things around completely taking a lead. He would hold his serve and finish off the major win.
