Alexander Zverev hopes to play at the
US Open and he's not the only one who can't wait to be back at Flushing Meadows.
The last time
Dominic Thiem played at the event was against Alexander Zverev in the final of the event. He was trailing 2-0 in the final but came back to win it 3-2 for his maiden and an only grand slam. He was unable to attend last year due to a wrist injury that saw him miss over a year of tennis. Now he's back to playing decent tennis again and he'll play Berrettini in the Hamburg semifinal.
For Zverev, last year's US Open was a good experience but he was unable to go all the way. This year's edition is one he could miss but he's hoping he can return in good shape for it. In a recent interview Zverev admitted that he gets along well with Thiem and how they are both targetting the US Open:
"I get along very well with Dominic Thiem and are always in contact. We
both want to find our top form again because I still have an open
account from our last Grand Slam match."
Zverev further added:
"I want to win every tournament I play. That's my character, I don't go to events just to take part. That's why I will play when I feel "I can win this tournament". Whether the first tournament is a Grand Slam or not is not because of the size of the event, but because of my comfort on the court. That's the most important thing for me."
