There were question marks surrounding Jannik Sinner following that catastrophic defeat at Roland Garros against Juan Manuel Cerundolo. A number of medical tests have since been conducted with the news coming back with a conclusion drawn from it.
Sinner has been known to struggle in the heat. In both Grand Slam tournaments this year he has not coped well. While he got away with it against Eliot Spizzirri in Melbourne while overcoming cramps in temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius, he could not battle through in Paris.
His body seemed to shut down as Cerundolo came back from 5-1 down in the third to win in a thrilling comeback. The headlines would surround the Italian who was the overwhelming favourite to take the title and complete the career Grand Slam.
Still without a major title in 2026, his year has not all been bad in fairness. Five consecutive Masters 1000 titles along with a winning streak of 30 matches abolished any fleeting concerns at the start of the year as he has cemented his name at the top of men's tennis for the foreseeable future with Carlos Alcaraz injury stricken and the chasing pack failing to catch up.

Medical tests unveil positive conclusions for Sinner to work off

Sinner returned to court at the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic at the Hurlingham Club on Wednesday. Temperatures rose to whopping 36 degrees Celsius with a current heat wave engulfing the UK. It was his first experience on grass ahead of his return to Wimbledon as the reigning champion.
The signs seemed good with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Cameron Norrie. He will relish the chance to have played some competitive action. He normally features in the Halle Open but this time decided not to make the trip following his prior expeditions in 2026.
Following the win, the question floating around the head of many was what were the results of those medical checks. “We did some testing, we tried to understand what happened, we came to a conclusion which is very good,” Sinner said as reported by Tennis365.
“So, we worked very much, we changed a little bit the work as well, trying to see how my body reacts in different conditions. And that’s it. At the same time, things can happen. I know it’s an unpredictable sport, but I try to see the positive thing.

“I’ve had some good practice weeks, trying to put in as much fuel as possible also for after Wimbledon, because it’s very long with Montreal, Cincinnati, US Open. You don’t have a lot of time to work physically, so we did a lot of work in the last couple of weeks.”
It may have not been the most pleasant experience competing in the soaring heat in London, but the positives far outweigh the negatives with much-needed Wimbledon preparation complete. “That’s exactly what I need, a good preparation before starting the tournament. From Monday on, it is not that warm, but if it is warm, we did a lot of work. We cannot do more than this,” Sinner said.
“In future, we will always try to practise where the warmer conditions could be, because I feel like every tournament is getting warmer and warmer every year, so it’s going to be important, but we did a lot of work. Also today was a good preparation.”
Sinner will begin his title defence against Miomir Kecmanovic. He could be in for a rematch against the Spanish talent Rafael Jodar in the last-16 with Novak Djokovic in his side of the draw.
