Former World No.1
Roger Federer just returned from a charity trip to Malawi, and the Swiss superstar affirmed his decision to assist people in need through his foundation.
The Roger Federer Foundation has been active in Malawi since 2020, and last week Federer himself paid a visit to see how much progress had been made.
During his visit to Malawi, the 20-time Grand Slam champion donated 3000 tablets. "It's amazing to see that in rural Malawi we have a digital device like the early-learning kiosk, making a difference for the children here," Federer said in a video uploaded on his foundation's YouTube channel. "The caregivers are doing an incredible job and I loved seeing that." Over the year, the Federer foundation has done a lot of positive philanthropic work in Africa."
Furthermore, the 40-year old spoke on his decision to assist the people of Malawi, stating his desire to help as he saw great potential there.
"What I want to do is help," admitted Federer. "I want to give the people and the kids here a chance in Malawi, because I do believe that the potential is incredibly big. This is why I'm here in the field to see it for myself, so I can also tell the story when I come back to Switzerland."
During his time in Malawi, Federer played a bit of tennis with the kids. The eight-time Wimbledon champion enjoyed the experience, comparing it to playing tennis with his own kids.
"I really loved playing with all the children at the playground and learning through play," he added. "I've been doing it with my children for years now, so I'm a little bit of an expert. We had a great and a lovely time."
