Australia’s tennis star
Nick Kyrgios has reiterated his
desire to return with a bang after suffering another major blow in his career.
The 28-year-old has been ruled out of the fourth and the
final Grand Slam of the year — the
US Open — after failing to recover from an
injury.
The development was announced by the US Open's official
Twitter account on Thursday.
Kyrgios, in a story on his official Instagram account,
stated that he is heartbroken with the news but expressed optimism that he will
return to ‘where he belong’.
"Heartbroken about the US Open, will be back....my
wrist is not ready yet to compete. But may I remind people that I have a
protected ranking of 21. When I choose to be back, I will be back where I
belong," he wrote.
The recent setback means that Kyrgios will miss all Grand
Slams in the calendar year, which is happening for the first time since he
turned pro back in 2012-13.
The news will be an even more disappointing one for the Canberra-born
as he had the best year at the highest level in 2022 where he played in the
final of his maiden and till now the only Grand Slam — Wimbledon.
In that match, he ended on the losing side to Serbia’s Novak
Djokovic with a score of 4–6, 6–3,
6–4, 7–6.
