Alex de Minaur will not play men's singles today at the 2024 Paris
Olympic Games withdrawing hours before he was due to open against Jan-Lennard Struff in a legacy of his injury from Wimbledon.
De Minaur reached the Quarter-Finals of Wimbledon last month in a first for the Aussie but it was a heartbreaking ending as he had to hand a walkover to Novak Djokovic due to a hip injury.
But this injury was sustained on match point in his previous match against Arthur Fils as he started to walk fairly gingerly towards the net and despite downplaying the injury, he soon withdrew and is not yet right enough to play in Paris.
He will still play though just not in singles. He will prioritise men's doubles alongside his childhood friend, Alexei Popyrin. They will face off against Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram later today.
But it is also a boost for Carlos Alcaraz who had De Minaur as a prospective Quarter-Final opponent. De Minaur joins the likes of Holger Rune and Hubert Hurkacz in recent days in being big named withdrawals albeit the Aussie is one of only a few to take place while the tournament has already begun and he is already in Paris.
The next question mark player is Rafael Nadal with the Spaniard saying last night that he is unsure whether he will play due to poor scheduling and also physical problems. So he could soon be next.
