Top ATP players continue to struggle in the ongoing
Cincinnati Open (Western & Southern Open).
Denmark’s
Holger Rune because the latest big-name player to
go out of the tournament after retiring during his round-of-32 clash against Mackenzie
McDonald.
The American tennis star won the first set with a score of
6-4 and was leading the second (4-2) when the game was called off during Rune’s injury.
The 20-year-old is the fourth player in the ATP top-10 rankings
to go out of the competition.
Russia’s
Andrey Rublev lost to Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori in
the second-round fixture with a score of 7-6, 5-7, 7-6.
Italy’s highly-rated
Jannik Sinner also lost to Croatia’s Dusan
Lajovic in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 7-6.
Last year’s US Open finalist Norway’s
Casper Ruud suffered a
defeat against Australia’s Max Purcell with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
These results will be devastating ones for all the big-name
players, especially ahead of the US Open as each of them would’ve wanted a
longer run in order to get prepared for the mega-event.
The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year is set to begin
in less than 15 days’ time where players from all over the world will showcase
their talent.
