Britain’s
Cameron Norrie has revealed that he loves coming
to The All England Club after getting the membership.
The 27-year-old got the membership after his impressive run
of form last year in
Wimbledon where he ended up playing in the semifinal of the
competition, losing to eventual winner
Novak Djokovic with a score of 2-6, 6-3,
6-2, 6-4.
Talking about the benefits of getting The All England Club
affiliation, Norrie stated that he feels ‘special’ coming to the place,
especially on off days.
“The food is so good here, even outside of the tournament.
Me and my fitness trainer really like the gym. Obviously to practise here one
day was great, too,” he said as quoted by UBITennis.
“I just got my membership, so it was cool to use that. It’s
such a nice club. It’s almost worth coming here just to have a shower and just
to enjoy, the showers they have are so good.
“It feels so special. I think even more so when the
tournament is not even on. Not many people are around. The facilities are
obviously so good. You get treated like someone really special.”
While talking about his own objectives in the upcoming
mega-event, the Johannesburg-born remains optimistic about repeating the last year’s
performances.
“There’s no reason why I can’t do it again,” he said. “I’m
playing well and hitting the ball really well. Having that run last year gave
me a lot of confidence going into this year,” he said. But it all starts again.
You have to take it match by match. There is still a long way to go. There are
so many good players on this surface. Yeah, the draw’s stacked. I’m going to
have to keep improving match by match.”
Norrie will be playing his Wimbledon 2023 opener
against Czech Republic’s Tomas Machac on Tuesday.
