Speculation street begins in terms of who will be
Novak Djokovic's next coach and
Andy Roddick has given his view on who it will likely be and who could be an outsider for the role including one
Boris Becker who previously coached the Serbian kingpin.
Djokovic announced on Wednesday the departure of Goran Ivanisevic from his team in a mid-season coaching shake-up which shocked many given that he came close to sealing all Grand Slams last year and has only played two tournaments this season. One being a loss to Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open and the other being defeat to at the time World No.123 Luca Nardi at Indian Wells.
The World No.1 decided against playing at the Miami Open saying that he was wanting to balance his personal and professional schedule. He still travelled to Miami but was seen more on the beach and at parties before returning to Belgrade to train on clay. But while footage was released, no inclination to Ivanisevic being there was apparent with the former Wimbledon champion usually by his side.
But one person who will likely be back with Djokovic believes Roddick is Marian Vajda who he split with in 2022 after he was paired with Ivanisevic initially as co-lead coaches. He previously returned after splits with Becker and Andre Agassi.
"Seems like he always kind of ends back up with [Marian Vajda] when something like this happens. That’s happened a couple of times," Roddick said on Tennis Channel.
"This is pure speculation; I know nothing but it wouldn’t shock me to see Becker in the mix of that conversation," he said.
But while Becker's name has been thrown into the hat at multiple junctures, many see it as a non-starter due to the German not being able to travel to most places due to his travel ban after being in prison for fraud. Albeit, the clay court season would be the most likely to see this partnership return with Becker allowed into many of the EU countries.
