Italy’s
Jannik Sinner has set his sights on ruling the grass
and clay court after another triumph on the hard surface. The 23-year-old is
regarded as the best player currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category.
Sinner recently secured another title on the hard court. He
defended his
Australian Open title after beating Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the
final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3. It was his third major
title on the hard court. He lifted the Australian Open in 2024 after beating Russia’s
Daniil Medvedev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 3-6, 3-6,
6-4, 6-4, 7-6. He then won the US Open last year as well after beating America’s
Taylor Fritz in the final with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 7-5.
In between that, he also won the ATP Finals on his home soil, where he got the better of Fritz as well in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4. Talking after his memorable run in Melbourne, Sinner stated that he
is now looking to improve his record on grass and clay courts.
“Of course, on hard court I feel more comfortable,” said the
reigning world number one. “I think that we can see. But I take it as positive
because on the other surfaces, I still have to improve, I have to see how it
works. I’m going to put a lot of energy into that, trying to find the right
ways, and hopefully to go far also in the other grand slams who are not played
on hard court. I’m still young and I think I have time to adjust, especially on
grass court, because I never played the juniors. It was kind of new when I
arrived to the tour. It’s exactly what I like. The difficulties trying to
understand where I can improve. You have to be a complete player, not only one
surface. I believe last year was not a bad season at all on clay and also on
grass. I can do better, yes, but let’s see."
