Australia’s
Nick Kyrgios has hit back at a fan on social media
after being criticised for taking a strong stance against Italy’s
Jannik Sinner.
The 29-year-old has being famous for having an opinion and for that, he has
received some strong criticism as well.
Kyrgios has been once again in the news recently after he
recently criticised world number one Sinner who escaped a ban despite testing
positive for a banned substance twice. “Ridiculous - whether it was accidental
or planned. You get tested twice with a banned (steroid) substance… you should
be gone for 2 years. Your performance was enhanced. Massage cream…. Yeah nice,”
he wrote.
A user on social media who claimed to be an
Andy Murray fan lambasted Kyrgios in a post. "OMG, all of Jannik Sinner's peers are
speaking out against him" and then you look at who it is and it's fucking
Nick Kyrgios,” the user wrote. In response to that, the former world number 10
hit back by highlighting how the former world number one has always supported
more tests and for the athletes to come clean. “You d riding Murray your whole
life you should also be on this side of things. Murray was for more doping
tests and being clean,” he wrote.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency explained the reasons
behind its decision, highlighting that it accepted the explanation of the Italian tennis star, who stated that it was his staff’s mistake.
“The player explained that the substance had entered their
system as a result of contamination from a support team member, who had been
applying an over-the-counter spray (available in Italy) containing clostebol to
their own skin to treat a small wound," the statement read. "That support team member applied the
spray between 5 and 13 March, during which time they also provided daily
massages and sports therapy to Sinner, resulting in unknowing transdermal
contamination. Following consultation with scientific experts, who concluded
that the player’s explanation was credible, the ITIA did not oppose the
player’s appeals to lift the provisional suspensions.”
