A couple of three-hour matches at the US Open allowed Alexander Zverev and Jack Sock to advance to the second round of the Grand Slam.

Sascha Zverev wasn't very lucky with the draw as he was paired with Kevin Anderson who is finally back on the tour and looked very well last week. The 1st set went as expected as both players served and played well so we naturally ended up in a tiebreak. It was the German who prevailed in it winning it 7-2. The 2nd set was a tough affair again. Anderson started playing much better towards the end of it which allowed him to clinch it 7-5.
The match looked even heading into the 3rd but from then on it was all Zverev. Anderson did put up a good fight in both the 3rd and 4th set but he ultimately lost both of them. Zverev won the 3rd with 6-3 and the 4th and final with 7-5. It took him 3 hours but Zverev prevailed and found himself in the 2nd round of the US Open.
Jack Sock also needed to put a lot of effort into his first-round match against Pablo Cuevas in order to be able to play the second round in Flushing Meadows this year. The American lost the first set 3-6, however, he soon got a 2-1 lead and got closer to the victory in the match.
But Cuevas fought back in the fourth set and even served for the victory in the fifth. But this roller-coaster match ended well for Sock who was able to clinch the victory in the tie-break of the fifth set to win the match 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(2).
