Alexander Zverev seems unlikely to return before the
US Open according to recent reports but he still has hope that it will happen that way.
Alexander Zverev recently started putting weight back onto his foot which was a very positive development for his recovery. The German has been rehabbing a terrible ankle injury that had him leave the arena in a wheelchair. According to reports close to Zverev, he seems to be recovering well but he's unlikely to be ready for the US Open, at least in the capacity he would like it to be.
Zverev underlined from the start that he won't rush back and only return when he feels fully ready to compete at the highest of levels. According to reports, he's more likely to be fit in that capacity for the Davis Cup in mid-September.
Asked to comment for Reuters, a spokesperson said:
"Sascha is recovering well and is still hoping that he can be ready for the US Open. However, it is still too early to tell if he will be able to compete there or not. Davis Cup in Hamburg in
September seems more realistic but we keep our fingers crossed that he
will be ready earlier."
