Aryna Sabalenka is into the semi-finals of the 2025 Brisbane International after seeing off Marie Bouzkova and while it was a 6-3, 6-4 scoreline in favour of the Belarusian, it wasn't the World No.1 at her vintage best.

Sabalenka though like against Yulia Putintseva has found a way to get through despite not being at 100% capability and often isn't at the start of the season which is usually to come towards the Australian Open. So not much to read into.

But in the tie, the unforced error count was very noticeable as she hit over 30 in sealing the win. She won't be able to hit that many in the semi-finals when she faces off against Mirra Andreeva.

Andreeva has been in some form and saw off Ons Jabeur earlier today and defeated her of course at the French Open in 2024. All three previous encounters though have come on clay. Sabalenka won their first two meetings in 2023 and 2024 but Andreeva won 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 against the World No.1 when it mattered most in Paris.

Sabalenka in sealing her win today avenged a loss to Marie Bouzkova in last year's semi-finals in Washington defeating her in one hour and 44 minutes. But despite not being 100%, she is yet to lose a set this week and sits at 3-0 for 2025.

She spoke afterwards about the Andreeva test and complimented the teenager calling her a great player and person having spent time with her during World Tennis League spawning some hilarious dance routines and also interviews on court. But it will all be business tomorrow.

“She’s a great player. We played an exhibition in Abu Dhabi. So I got to know her a little bit better. She’s a nice person and a great player. We’ve had great battles in the past. I’m really looking forward to facing her tomorrow.”
