Alexander Zverev has become just the third player on the active ATP tour to reach 20 ATP Masters 1000 semi-finals on Friday at the
Paris Masters. He saw off
Stefanos Tsitsipas to end the hopes of the Greek ace.
Zverev sealed a 7-5, 6-4 win after one hour and 44 minutes in the French capital. In the latest meeting of this long-running rivalry, Zverev saved one break point he faced and hit with aggression and purpose. He produced in the fast indoor conditions of Paris Bercy.
He joined Novak Djokovic who is on 78 and Rafael Nadal who is on 76 as a 20-time Masters 1000 semi-finalist. He also became the first player born in the 1990's to earn 100 top 20 wins. Daniil Medvedev is second with a 99-73 record.
A master of the ATP 1000 conditions. It would be a seventh Masters 1000 title of the season. He is now favourite after the demise of Carlos Alcaraz yesterday seeing off Ugo Humbert. He will face either Alex de Minaur or Holger Rune in the semi-finals.
Tsitsipas is 11th in the Race to Turin but Zverev has extinguished his hopes. De Minaur and Rune are still in qualification contention. Zverev will look to conclude his red hot form with a Paris triumph and follow that up with a third ATP Finals win. He won the title back in 2018 and 2021 and has continued that form this week in Paris.
The favourite continues his roll. He is also one win away from resealing the World Number Two position with Carlos Alcaraz faltering making it a foregone conclusion as such that the German will retake his spot.
