The big Danish talent, Clara Tauson enjoyed her breakthrough at the 2021 Open 6ème Sens in Lyon. Tauson started the tournament as qualifier and faced the first-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova in the first round, however, she didn't lose a single set in Lyon and walked towards the trophy with 14-won straights in a row, including qualifying.
The French players didn't really manage to get close to the trophy in Lyon as Kristina Mladenovic lost in the quarterfinals and the second-seeded Fiona Ferro lost in the semifinals. The 18-years-old Clara Tausan took home almost $25,000 and added 280 points to the WTA Rankings what moved her to the Top 100 of the WTA Rankings.

- I heartily disagree with Stubbs here. I mean c'mon! The whole idea of giving out wildcards is to give new & up-coming players a chance at getting as much circuit match-practice under their belts as possible. And this is a HUGE must and opportunity for these new kids on the block. Why curtail opportunities for these newbies in favour of stalwart monopoly?? That just isn't fair. At least give these lesser known players a chance to become more familiar at playing in bigger tournaments & give them also a chance of getting the crowds behind these underdogs.
