Nick Kyrgios boasted about having more followers on social media than most of the top-10 players.
Recently, a tweet from the Relevan Tennis account listed the number of followers on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for the current Top 10 players. Former world No. 13 Nick Kyrgios reacted to the post with a brief comment, and a user criticized his response, pointing out that he is not yet in the top 10 of the ATP rankings.
“before mocking the top 10 players for havng less followers than you you should reach the top 10 first,” he wrote.
No I think it’s funny that I’ve brought more to the sport than most, don’t be upset x
Kyrgios, who has more than 5 million followers on social media, responded by comparing his followers with those of the players on the list.
“No I think it’s funny that I’ve brought more to the sport than most, don’t be upset x,” he responded.
The list is led by Novak Djokovic with 32.6M followers, followed by Alcaraz with 4.87M and Stefanos Tsitsipas with 2.52M. In this way, Kyrgios surpasses nine out of the top-10 players with the highest number of followers.
The ranking is followed by Medvedev with 1.4M and Jannik Sinner with 1.05M. The rest of the players have over 750K followers in total, including Frances Tiafoe, Casper Ruud, Holger Rune, Andrey Rublev, and Taylor Fritz.
Kyrgios, on the other hand, is currently ranked world No. 35 and has only played one match in 2023, losing in the first round of the Stuttgart Open against Chinese player Wu Yibing.
The Australian will experience a significant drop in rankings as he will lose the points from the DC Open, a tournament he won in 2022. This will bring him down to world No. 92, and it is still unknown when he will make his return to the ATP tour due to injuries that have hindered his regular participation throughout the year.
