Eagles go into final with great momentum
It has been a fantastic few days for Eagles. They began with a tight 18-16 victory over Falcons with Monfils picking up a big win over former US Open champion Medvedev. They backed this up with a complete and utter dominant performance over Kites. This is an ominous sign before their final clash.
They completed the action with a comfortable 22-12 win over Hawks. After Monfils and Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty lost in the mixed doubles, Sumit Nagal thrashed Shapovalov 6-1 as fellow Indian Bhamidipaty beat Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi 6-2 in another all-Indian affair. Bhamidipaty returned in the doubles alongside Badosa for another victory.
They have lost just two matches so far. The mixed doubles defeat was the second with Badosa's first match against Linette not going her way, losing 6-4. They sit comfortably on top of the standings, and will subsequently go into the final as the favourites.
Kites looking for revenge
Compared to their rivals, Kites won just one matchup. This came in their third and final clash which was against Falcons in a shootout for qualification. It started well, with Kostyuk coming in clutch when teamed up with Dhakshineswar Suresh in the mixed doubles before getting the better of Magda Linette by the same 6-4 scoreline to put her team in a solid advantage.
Nick Kyrgios continues his comeback to tennis
Kyrgios and Suresh were just pipped by Medvedev and the experienced Rohan Bopanna. A surprise result then followed in the singles when Suresh completed a brilliant day for Indian tennis by getting a win over Medvedev 6-4. This was a hugely crucial result with their place in the competition in the balance. Kites lost their first clash 25-21 to Hawks in four very closely contested matchups before being battered by Eagles.
While Kostyuk brought her A-game to the final group tie, she failed to win any of her four matches earlier in the competition, saving her best results for the right time. There has also not been much of Kyrgios on court, having only competed in the men's double ties. The Aussie won his first match partnered alongside Suresh but was second best in the following two.
The last time the Eagles and Kites took to the court against each other was in the second day of action. It was a complete route for the Eagles. Badosa started by thrashing Kostyuk 6-1 before she took to the court with Monfils to take down Kostyuk and Suresh 6-3. In the men's doubles Monfils and Nagal got the better of Kyrgios and Suresh before Nagal won the men's single match against fellow Indian Suresh.
The Kites will need to up their game to fend off the inform Eagles, but with the final fast approaching anything can happen. The
