Former Wimbledon runner-up
Eugenie Bouchard continues to make headlines in the world of sport, although this time her achievements were noticed not in tennis, but
pickleball.
The Canadian has slowly transition to the sport of pickleball, after dealing with several injuries that hindered her tennis career. She has played just four pro-level tennis matches in 2024. However, Bouchard competes mostly on the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) Tour, while her WTA singles ranking sits at World No.997. She has played just four pro-level tennis matches in 2024.
Bouchard impresses with rare shot during pickleball match
In October, Bouchard reached her first professional pickleball semifinal at the Rate Championships in Las Vegas. The former World No.5 went 5-1 in sets before an 11-2, 14-16, 11-0 loss to eventual champion Kate Fahey.
The 30-year old appears to be improving by leaps and bounds in the world of pickleball. At the Lapiplasty Pickleball World Championships in Dallas this week, Bouchard pulled off one of the sport's most exciting shots, the Around the Post—or ATP. The shot requires the opponent to hit the ball at such an angle where you are taken off the court can strike the pickleball outside the net post.
Bouchard's shot was so spectacular, it left the crowd roaring with appreciation. Furthermore, it earned her a place on SportsCenter's Top 10 plays on ESPN. The Canadian would end up winning the match and is into the round of 16 at the sport's premier event.
