The WTA Finals will take place between 2-9 November, 2024 with eight players competing for the title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Our Tournament Centre gives all the information you need including Prize Money, Schedule, Results and TV Guide.
Headlined by Aryna Sabalenka, she will look to end her season as the undisputed WTA Queen. She was made World No.1 after point penalties recently and will battle Iga Swiatek for top spot. Also playing are Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Jasmine Paolini, Elena Rybakina, Qinwen Zheng and Barbora Krejcikova. Emma Navarro and Daria Kasatkina are alternates.
It is the first time that it will be played in RIyadh and albeit the same was thought for Shenzhen, it will be in a multiple year deal. The tournament came under fire for being held in Riyadh due to the human rights reputation and also the laws surrounding women. But the country have moved to dispel those hoping to make this first foray a success.
Prize Money
With only the best players competing, the tournament is offering an enormous $15,250,000 prize pool to the participants. This is a large increase from last year's event, which offered a total of $9,000,000. This in itself was an increase. The undefeated singles champion takes home over $5million. That said -- WTA is failing the players by allowing these camera operators to hover over, or next to, players -- especially while physio teams are working on their exposed areas, etc., etc., etc. There should be a safe distance rule. Also: let's not forget it was the cameras taking closeups across the court and literally resulting in revealing "upskirt" views (hence the ladies now place a towel between their legs at the bench). Players need to STOP TRYING TO JUSTIFY THEIR INCLUSION!
They are not ambassadors for women in Saudi Arabia, they are not politicians, and they will never make a difference for females in that 'culture'.
This little tennis "tournament" changes nothing. Players were lured by the money, opted to participate, and should just keep their predictable excuses and Women's Freedom Fairy Tales to themselves. Period.
Like most things in Life -- one cannot make an argument against the Saudi Regime and, at the same time, triple your bank account with their "gifts".
