Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz has rated his 2024 season 8.5 out of
10. The 21-year-old has had a fabulous season, lifting two Grand Slams for the
first time in a year.
He lifted the French Open after beating Germany’s Alexander
Zverev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of 6–3, 2–6, 5–7, 6–1,
6–2. He then lifted the Wimbledon title as well for the second time in two
years, after beating former world number one Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in the
final in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6.
But despite all that success, Alcaraz has also suffered some
hiccups. The young Spaniard, who is already regarded as one of the best players
currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category along with the likes
of Italy’s Jannik Sinner, is currently in Turin to participate in the ATP
Finals. The mega-event, the last in the men’s singles tennis, is set to begin
on Sunday, where the top eight players will participate to showcase their talent
and secure the ultimate prize.
Ahead of the start of the mega-event, the world number three
has been recently quoted in a report by Tennis 365 where he rated his 2024
season 8.5 out of 10. The four-time Grand Slam winner also stated that he
learnt a lot this year after suffering some disappointing results.
“It is impossible to rate it 10 out of 10 as you can always
be better but it was a really amazing year for me,” he said. “I would say eight
and a half or nine. It could have been better with the gold medal or other
tournaments but I would say 8.5. I learned a lot this year. I know myself more
as a person and a player: what I need to do, what I need, on and off the court.
Some of my losses this year were really painful for me: what I have to do, to
train on days off. It is not only a goal on the court but also what you have to
do on days off: how many days to take before going to the tournament, before it
starts to prepare as best.”
