Despite losing the rights in the UK to the coverage of ATP/WTA tennis, Amazon Prime will keep some semblance of the sport in their future programming with a documentary announced about
Roger Federer's final twelve days as a professional tennis player.
The film premieres exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and is directed by Academy Award-winning director Asif Kapadia and his co-director Joe Sabia. Famously Amazon Prime also showcased the Andy Murray: Resurfacing documentary which charted the career saving hip surgery of the former World No.1.
Originally intended as a home video that was not for public viewing, the documentary sees Federer accompanied in his most vulnerable moments and shows him saying goodbye to a game that he has played for the last two decades. Featuring interviews with legendary rivals in Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, it will offer an unprecedented insight into his rivalries and also his final days as a tennis superstar.
After injury issues for many years including multiple surgeries, Federer said goodbye at the 2022 Laver Cup with Djokovic and Nadal still playing since then. All as well as Murray were present for his final action at the Laver Cup which he runs and he played doubles with Nadal as the two former rivals and now friends teamed up for an emotional ending.
