Andre Agassi's iconic shoewear is set to make a comeback in 2024 as the Nike Air Tech Challenge II sneakers in the "Hot Lava" colorway return to Nike Sportswear's collection.

Agassi had a hugely successful career throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, becoming the first of two men to achieve a career Grand Slam, winning seventeen Masters titles, and becoming an Olympic Gold medalist.

Agassi began his career wearing Air Trainer 1, which was Nike's first-ever cross-training sneaker and was made popular by his compatriot John McEnroe. Following the latter's retirement in 1989, Agassi was given the chance to headline Nike's Air Tech Challenge line.

The history of Agassi's "Hot Lava" sneaker

The popular shoes were first worn by eight-time Grand Slam champion Agassi in the 1990 Roland Garros final. The fiery hues of the sneaker were often seen by fans as an expression of his bold demeanor both on and off the court.

The sneakers have been revived several times over the last three decades. They made a return in 2008, before coming back again in 2014, 2016, and 2019. In 2023, they will be part of a Quickstrike release, meaning that it will only be available at a select number of retailers.

Moreover, the "Hot Lava" theme has also inspired several other major releases in Nike's sporting shoewear collection, including 2019's LeBron 16.

Since retiring from professional tennis in 2006, Agassi has explored many areas outside of the sport such as business ventures and philanthropic works. However, he recently became invested in another racket sport when he played at the Pickleball Slam earlier this year.

Watching Cincy/Bama and organizing some sneakers and if you were curious this is my all-time favorite pair of non-Jordan sneakers: the Andre Agassi Air Tech Challenge II “Hot Lava” that he wore in the 1990 French Open. Timeless.
