Angelique Kerber will make her return post pregnancy as confirmed earlier in the week at the 2024 United Cup in a German dream team alongside Alexander Zverev in Australia.
Kerber has been out of action since 2022, with the multiple Grand Slam champion confirming fairly low key compared to the likes of Naomi Osaka who will also play in the tournament and even Caroline Wozniacki that she would be back at the farewell for her friend and compatriot, Andrea Petkovic.
Since then, Kerber has reunited with her old coach Torben Beltz in a similar move to Osaka who will return to Wim Fissette albeit for Beltz, it wasn't after breaking a contract with a current player like Qinwen Zheng.
Now similarly both will be big name returns at the United Cup after entering before the deadline. It will be a star studded affair with Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek set to headline as well as teams such as Jessica Pegula with Taylor Fritz and Stefanos Tsitsipas with Maria Sakkari.
But after the deadline and the teams were confirmed, Kerber and Zverev set tongues wagging with Instagram stories to hype up their reunion with the former asking if he is ready.
It is a reunion for the first time since 2019 where they played with each other and reached the final of the Hopman Cup.
In returning mother watch, Wozniacki is the only of the returning duo to not play the tournament and will instead be at the season opening ASB Classic.
This means that a doubles team with Holger Rune will likely have to wait until at least the Olympics.
