The 2025 season will kick off with a handful of events Down Under, with the Brisbane International serving as one of the warm-up tournaments for the Australian Open.
Both ATP and WTA superstars will be hoping to be in good shape when the first Grand Slam of the season comes around. The Brisbane International will feature members of both tours competing for the prestigious title, with several players using it as a measuring stick to determine where they stand as the new season kicks off.
Sabalenka hoping to go all the way, Dimitrov to defend title
WTA World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka lost to Kazakh star Elena Rybakina in the 2024 final, although she did go on to successfully defend her Australian Open title. The big-hitting Belarusian will be vying to capture the Brisbane title for the first time in her career. Joining Sabalenka is World No.4 Jessica Pegula, and the American may end up facing compatriot Emma Navarro, who has also been confirmed for the event.
Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov captured the title at the 2024 edition, and the former World No.3's incredible run to the title set him up for a spectacular season that saw him finish with a 46-18 record and top 10 ranking. Dimitrov will be joined by French veteran Gael Monfils, alongside rising Danish star Holger Rune. The American duo of Frances Tiafoe and Sebastian Korda have also been announced for the event.
Growing up in a household where soccer was king, my earliest memories are filled with chants from packed stadiums and the rhythm of a ball being passed across neighborhood streets. But somewhere along the way, the quiet elegance and raw emotion of tennis pulled me in. What began as a curiosity became a lifelong passion; not just for the sport itself, but for the stories it tells: of grit, of heartbreak, of improbable comebacks and human resilience.
As a tennis writer, I bring the observational lens of someone who didn’t grow up in the sport, but fell in love with it as an outsider; a perspective that lets me see both its technical beauty and its emotional depth. Over the years working with TennisUpToDate, I’ve had the privilege of reaching more than 3.5 million readers worldwide, with one of my features ranking among the site’s top three articles.
With a background in storytelling and a creative mind always searching for meaning beyond the scoreboard, I aim to craft narratives that go deeper than results and rankings. Whether it’s a rising star breaking through or a veteran fighting off Father Time, I try to capture the heartbeat behind the headlines.
