Auger-Aliassime said that he wants to leave his own legacy of good on the sport in terms of inspiring others to get involved in tennis.
“People will get to know me over the years and will probably know that I want to leave a good example for the generation after. I want to inspire kids to get interested in the sport, but further than that just being a good citizen,” Auger-Aliassime told ATP Uncovered. “If you have that in you, if you put that in place every day, probably good things will happen.”
Despite always wanting to play tennis, he admitted that he is very much living the dream but that he always knew he could do it.
“Since I’m seven, eight years old, I knew I wanted to be a professional player,” Auger-Aliassime added. “Now, I’m just living my dream.”
“I never thought of doing anything else, which is kind of weird to say to other teenagers that I see who are finding themselves not really knowing what they want to do."
“There was no guarantee that I would make it, obviously, but at the same time I never doubted myself that that is what I wanted to do. Since the day I decided I wanted to [play tennis] as a career I never looked back.”
