2. Ashleigh Barty
Despite being just 25 years old, Ashleigh
Barty is currently the Women’s Tennis Association’s (WTA) number one player.
She has won each of the four Grand Slam titles once, except for the US Open
(she reached the tournament's fourth round twice).
However, she did win the doubles event at
the US Open in 2018, partnered with CoCo Vandeweghe. Barty also claimed the
bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in the same event.
3. Daniil Medvedev
Russian Medvedev currently is the ATP’s
second-highest ranked player, a career-high. He has won a total of 13 singles
titles, including one Grand Slam event - he won the US Open last year.
Medvedev is said to be a smart player, with
a powerful serve capable of reaching massive speeds of up to 140 mph. He’s also
mentally strong on the court, and can outlast many opponents who struggle to
keep up in an hours-long battle.
4. Karolina Pliskova
Czech Pliskova is currently sitting at
number four on the WTA’s rankings but was previously number one for a total of
eight weeks. She also performs well in doubles, with her career-high ranking of
number 11.
She might not have any Grand Slam titles
under her belt yet, but she has repeatedly performed well, reaching either the
semi-final or the final of each of the four events. However, she does have a
total of 16 singles and five doubles titles to her name on the WTA tour and has
won over $20 million for her efforts!
5. Stefanos Tsitsipas
Greek-born Tsitsipas holds the record as
the highest-ranked Greek player in the ATP rankings, reaching a career-high of
number three. He reached the finals of the French Open last year, ultimately
losing out to Djokovic despite leading after the first two sets.
Although he only turned pro in 2016,
Tsitsipas has already raked in over $17 million in prize money - not bad for a
few years’ work!
6. Rafael Nadal
As noted above, Nadal holds the record for
the most Grand Slam titles - a staggering 21. Of these, he has won the French
Open 13 times between 2005-2020. Not only that, but he also took home the Gold
medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Nadal was ranked the world number one for a
massive 209 weeks throughout his career and holds the record for the most
consecutive wins on clay, with 81. He’s also the third-highest earning player
of all time and has earned over $125 million during his professional career!
7. Emma Raducanu
Last but not least, we have rising star
Emma Raducanu. She recently reached her career highest ranking of 12th
according to the WTA, despite being just 19 years old.
Raducanu rose to
fame after winning the US Open in 2021, and we can only expect her to get
stronger and stronger.
She already has sponsorships with both Nike
and Wilson and is a brand ambassador for the likes of Tiffany & Co, Evian,
and British Airways. Raducanu also won BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year
