Boris Becker is deep in mourning after the loss of his mother who passed away one day before his birthday. Widely viewed as one of the most important people in his life, Elvira Becker passed away aged 89.
She was found in her apartment in Leimen, Baden-Württemberg on Thursday morning. The tennis legend was informed by telephone and is now traveling to his hometown where he was born.
His lawyer, Oliver Moser confirmed the news with a simple statement. "I can confirm the death of Elvira Becker. Boris Becker is in deep mourning."
A key part in his career. She and her husband, Karl-Heinz were instrumental with the latter building a tennis center in Leimen where he began his training. Elvira managed the family affairs meaning that Boris had the stability to focus on training and tournaments. When he became Wimbledon champion at the age of 17, she was present on July 77th 1985.
In 2022 during his prison stint in the UK, she provided emotional support with regular phone calls with sources saying that he relied on these conversations with his mother throughout his time in a British prison. He visited her earlier this year for Mother's Day captioning his post. 'The one and only... Elvira! Happy Mother's Day.'
She only couldn't attend his wedding to Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro due to mobility issues. 'I can't cope with my health, my legs can't take it anymore. It's a long journey,' she told German newspaper Bild.
With husband Karl-Heinz Becker passing away from cancer in 1999, it left Elvira as the main focal point of the family and will be a shattering loss for Boris Becker. She remained by his side during prevalent high profile scandals including divorces and financial troubles albeit it was the action of staying by his side as opposed to words in the press and to newspapers about it.
Gracias Rafa!
