The CEO of the Australian Open Craig Tiley believes that
Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz and America’s
Coco Gauff are ‘heir apparent’ to the Big
Four and women’s former world number one Serena Williams.
Both players are one of the most highly-rated currently
playing in the circuit both in men’s and women’s singles categories.
Tiley was recently quoted in a report where he heaped praise
on Alcaraz and Gauff and called ‘heir apparent’ to some of the greats of the
game.
"On the men's side and the women's side, there's quite
a lot,” he said. “There are some that are starting to stake their claim as
being the heir apparent to that. I think Coco and Carlos are the two that are
probably ahead of the pack in that. But the pack is broad, which is great."
Alcaraz became the talk of the town after beating the
current world number one and Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic in
the final at Wimbledon in a five-set thriller with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6),
6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
On the other hand, Gauff is the reigning US Open champion as
she lifted the title after beating Belarus’s Aryna Sabalenka in the final with
a score of 2–6, 6–3, 6–2.
