When action does resume, Juan Martin del Potro will have a new coach working alongside him after the announcement on Saturday that he has parted ways with Sebastian Prieto.
Prieto is a former doubles player who peaked at No.22 in the rankings back in 2006 winning 10 tour-level titles; he will now switch to coaching Del Potro's compatriot, Juan Ignacio Londero and for the former US Open champion; it was a split prompted by his injury rehab.
“I want to share that I have agreed with Sebastian Prieto to end our partnership, so that he can work with Juan Londero, while I continue my rehab process,” Del Potro wrote on Twitter. “I’m very thankful to Piper for all of these years together. He is a great coach and an even better person. All the best!”
Del Potro has not yet confirmed who will replace him as of yet; the highlights of their career together included his first ATP Masters 1000 title and his first Grand Slam final in nine years at the US Open.
He has underwent surgery on a fractured kneecap he sustained at Queens last year after previously having persistent injury problems.
