In the
celebration of their first wedding anniversary,
Gael Monfils wrote a message
for his wife
Elina Svitolina.
The French
tennis player and the Ukrainian were recently blessed with their daughter, Skai
Monfils, in October of last year. The couple got married in July 2022 after
being in a relationship for a few years, and Gael Monfils dedicated a heartfelt
message to his wife on social media.
"Two
years ago, we sealed our love with an ‘I do’, and every day since has been a
celebration of that commitment. Last year, our family grew with the arrival of
our little princess, Skaï. Her presence brought indescribable joy and added a
new dimension to our love," he wrote.
"On
this second wedding anniversary, I am thankful for every moment we’ve spent
together, for our love that continues to grow and strengthen. Thank you, my
love, and our wonderful Skaï, for making every day special. May our journey of
life always be an adventure full of joy and love. My heart overflows with love
for you both."
Elina
Svitolina, recent
Wimbledon semifinalist, fell to the Czech and eventual
champion Marketa Vondrousova in two sets, after a great run that included
victories over Victoria Azarenka and world No. 1 Iga Swiatek. The Ukrainian
responded to her husband on Instagram.
"If I
know what love is, it is because of you 🥰 happy anniversary mon amour," she wrote on Instagram.
After
exiting Wimbledon, Svitolina had words for her husband and her preparation to
continue traveling and competing on the tour.
“This
winter we both prepared ourselves to come back and compete and it was great
because we motivated each other,” she said.
“It's
important to have someone who understands your goals.”
Monfils, at
36 years old, is currently ranked world No. 315 and will compete in the Atlanta
Open next week, thanks to a wild card granted by the organization.
As for
Svitolina, despite her recent return to the
WTA tour, her quarterfinal
appearance at the French Open, semifinal at Wimbledon, and title at the
Strasbourg Open have propelled her to world No. 27. She’ll be competing in the
WTA 500 Washington Open in two weeks.
