Cristopher
Eubanks joked about
Coco Gauff snacking while watching him play against Daniil
Medvedev.
The
American was the surprise of
Wimbledon, reaching the quarterfinals and
defeating the 12th seed Cameron Norrie and the 5th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas
along the way. Showing the best form of his career, Eubanks was ultimately
defeated by world No. 3 Daniil Medvedev in five sets.
During the
match, television cameras captured American tennis player Coco Gauff, a friend
of Eubanks, in the crowd watching his match and snacking on snacks during the
fourth set. This moment was shared by a user on social media.
Eubanks
reacted to the post mentioning Gauff:
“Hungry
much? @CocoGauff,” he twitted.
Gauff had
finished her Wimbledon campaign a day earlier when she was eliminated in the
doubles' round of 16 alongside her partner Jessica Pegula, losing to the team
of Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva. The world No. 7 had a disappointing run
in the singles main draw, as she was knocked out in the first round by Sofia
Kenin, who came through the qualifying rounds.
Eubanks
arrived in London with a 2-8 record in Grand Slam matches, and at 27 years old,
he entered the top 100 just two months ago, reaching a career-high ranking of
No. 43 the week before Wimbledon after winning the Mallorca Open, his first ATP
250 title.
His strong
performances on grass have propelled him to the world No. 31 ranking starting
from Monday, granting him direct entry into all tournaments and even potential
seeding in Grand Slams if he maintains or improves his position.
Eubanks
won't be taking a break after his Wimbledon run and will be playing in another
grass court tournament next week, the 2023 Infosys Hall of Fame Open in
Atlanta, where players like Maxime Cressy, Tommy Paul, John Isner, Adrian
Mannarino, and Ugo Humbert will also be competing.
