The top-ranked Swiss WTA star Belinda Bencic would love to compete alongside Roger Federer at this year's Tokyo Olympics if they get a chance to travel to Japan due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Roger and Belinda were the players to beat at their previous two mixed events at Hopman Cup in Perth, beating Germany in the 2018 and 2019 finals to lift two trophies together.
Bencic hopes that Roger will return as soon as possible, staying in touch with both him and his wife Mirka and asking him for advice anytime she needs one.
Belinda will defend the Swiss colors at the upcoming Australian Open. Roger is missing the season's first Major for the first time since 1999, undergoing two knee surgeries last year and needing more time on the practice court to get back at 100%. Federer should return in March, in Doha and Dubai.
"I would love to play with Roger, but it also depends on whether the Olympics will be. I hope Roger will still play; I would love to compete alongside him again. I keep in touch with both Roger and Mirka. It's nice of Roger that I can always ask him anything when I need experienced advice," Belinda Bencic said.
