World No.4 Roger Federer seems to have put the 2020 season behind him and is already focusing on next year.
The Swiss Maestro had his second knee operation in June,
effectively ending his 2020 campaign. However, he seems to be more concerned about his ability to maintain a high level of performance next year.
"I feel much better again," Federer said when taking questions from fans online. "I'm not at the level where I can play tennis fully yet."
Although Federer holds the record for most Grand Slam singles titles with 20, he has never won an Olympic Gold medal in singles. The Olympic final is scheduled for Aug. 1, 2021, one week before he turns 40.
"The goal is really that I'm ready for next year," Federer said.
He revealed last month that he had had "an additional quick arthroscopic procedure" on his right knee some weeks earlier. Nonetheless, this did not cost him any tournament play as the ATP season was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. However,
play is set to resume next month.
